Joseph Piece
Like most other 18-year-olds, Joseph Piece is ready to take on the world. As a recent high school graduate without any work experience or skills training, finding a job can be difficult. Being diagnosed with a development disorder that affects your growth – adds another layer to those challenges. People are sometimes quick to say what he “can’t” do. However, Joseph did not let that stop him from trying to grow as a person.
He began working with the Opportunity Now Vocational Rehabilitation Program to learn how to become more self-sufficient. His job coach helped Joseph gain the confidence he needs to take on the responsibility of working. After being in our program for only one week, Joseph was able to land a job at Walmart – earning more than minimum wage. Not bad for a first job and no experience!
Never mind the naysayers. Each week, Joseph is becoming more comfortable with expressing himself and working through the challenges in his abilities. He is now learning more skills and earning valuable experience that will set him on a course for even more success.
